  • The August 2024 update (KB5041580) for Windows 10 includes several fixes and improvements but doesn’t introduce new features.
  • Windows 10 1809, 1607, and 1507 are also getting an update to fix different issues.

The August 2024 Patch Tuesday Update is now rolling out as build 19044.4780 and 19045.4780 (KB5041580) for Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2, which includes various fixes and improvements.

According to the official notes from August 13, 2024, the monthly security update, there are no new features or significant changes, but the company is fixing problems with Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 (WPA3), ILT and Local Users and Groups, TCP, Windows Backup, and DHCP Option 235.

In addition, similar to the August 2024 update for Windows 11, this update resolves printing problems and updates the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist file to include a list of drivers at risk for BYOVD attacks.

This security update also fixes the BitLocker recovery screen that shows when starting the computer. However, you will still have to provide the recovery key to start the device and download the latest system update.

Furthermore, the update KB5041580 fixes the Lock screen’s missing the “Use my Windows user account” check box to connect to Wi-Fi, removes the “NetJoinLegacyAccountReuse” Registry key, and applies the Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) to systems running the operating system to prevent the vulnerable Linux EFI (Shim bootloaders) from running.
